I found one on the curb on garbage day years ago - it was one of those computer enabled models with solenoids and switches to make it into a teletype clone.

A little clean up, a new print ball, ribbon, and some small parts from IBM, and it sat on my ham bench for years. Made copying 20 WPM a snap.

Sold it at a hamfest after I traded up to a 1970's vintage IBM "word processor" - a big cabinet filled with proprietary metal can IBM ICs and a Selectric on a thick 6' cable. It has a magnetic Hollerith form factor card reader in the cabinet, good for about 2000 characters per card. The former owner used it to print out address labels for his business.Chuck Kueckerhttp://beloitballistics.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2510602155400642279.post-84315490785138758192011-09-22T12:48:34.592-06:002011-09-22T12:48:34.592-06:00I'm going to go hug my Smiths and promise that...I'm going to go hug my Smiths and promise that no one will ever abandon them in the rain.

And yes, clapped out typewriters are fun to take apart.Butch Cassidyhttp://theruntcompound.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2510602155400642279.post-37589240471564389322011-09-22T10:15:55.534-06:002011-09-22T10:15:55.534-06:00"have all sorts of gears and motors and such ..."have all sorts of gears and motors and such on the inside, and be fun to take apart..."

Welcome to my 12-year-old mind.Northhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12778737553770514684noreply@blogger.com
