Abortion is the least American thing we do: you can draw a smiley face on it and call it pro-choice, and say it is all about the mother protecting her body (from what, by the way?). But ultimately it is a violent, abhorrent murder against the absolute most defenseless people in our society—the sleeping fetus.I know that this can be a hot-button issue, but the "My Body, My Choice" slogan is leaving out one of the major parties in the debate--the one that is most affected and least able to speak up.

Linkery, Cans of Worms, Etc.
The Czar of Muscovy is talking about abortion, and the attitudes and language used to discuss it. His attitude is identical to mine:

This blog kills Facists
Well, it annoys them anyway.
Borepatch and ASM826 both put down their thoughts on the matter. How many of the current crop of candidates are people who want you to be free?
I say I annoy them, because, well, have you seen how many random Youtube videos I post? And that is something that really pisses off the media moguls, who are the very definition of "Radical Authoritarians."
Borepatch started it, and you should carry it on.

Did this just happen to anyone else?
My fancy smartypants phone just gave me the notification (three times, no less) that there was a test of some sort of Emergency Alert System. Digging into the settings it appears that there are four levels that it does, from AMBER Alert to Presidential Alert, and "Do you want to receive alerts in the future?" Do I want to be able to listen to communications from my dear old Uncle Sam in the future? I pressed no; it's freaky enough that there's a built in GPS, I don't think I could handle getting information from them to go along with whatever they're getting from me.
Communication is a two way street, sure... but what if I just want to be left alone? Despite having this droid for over a year, I'm still not sold on the whole thing.

Buycott
In support Borepatch's "I am TJIC buycott" (or is it Jay's?), I present to you my latest excursion into beefing up my ORC:
I've been looking for a scope for some time now, so the buycott was really just a good excuse to pick one up. This is a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40. Seemed to hit my quality/price ratio in the right place (and it was the same price as the 3-9x40, so >>shrug<<), and it's the one that my old roommate in MT put on his 300 RUM (hmmmm... it's hiding in the back of the last picture of this post), so I figure it ought to hold up to my measly little 308. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding, but before I can prove it I must mount it on my rifle...

On strike
...be back the 19th.
There was more than just SOPA, you know. The Senate is voting on their version (PIPA) on the 24th.
When did we let so many idiots be in charge of such minutia in our lives?

Quote of the Day
"I am sick and tired of Bloomberg demonizing gun owners. Any politician that would get up in front of a microphone and outright lie to the media about an innocent victim of his Draconian firearms policies is unworthy of holding public office. Every mayor who belongs to Bloomberg's anti-gun-rights Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition should be embarrassed by his remarks and seriously reconsider their membership in his organization. The only thing worse than Bloomberg's New York gun laws is Bloomberg himself. If Bloomberg ever had any credibility at all it no longer exists. His deliberate slander of Meredith Graves is reprehensible, and he should be ashamed."Alan Gottlieb, in the SAF's latest press release.
Hey Mayor Bloomberg? I think the technical term for that is "PWND, NOOB!"

A pertinent scripture
Proverbs 28:2 (HCSB):
When a land is in rebellion, it has many rulers,
but with a discerning and knowledgeable person, it endures.
While you might take this to say that the Proverbs are pushing an "Only Ones" mentality, I sure can't say that right now we don't have any "discerning and knowledgeable" people in charge of anything, and the "enduring" part doesn't seem to be very realistic, and between all of the entrenched bureaucracy, states trying to get back their power, justice department trying to start a war with Mexico, tea party, OWS, Republican, and Democrat bickering, and a president who flies off to Hawaii at the drop of a hat, there isn't much leadership floating around out there either.
Interesting times...

Broken eggs and omelets
Maybe a year or two ago if you had told me that Eric Holder might have been involved in providing Timothy McVeigh with his explosives, I would have pointed and laughed at your crazy conspiracy theories.
Now I just go "Hmmm. Yeah, I could see that." Considering that both the justification and the method of this and Fast and Furious are pretty much identical...
Added:
ASM826's link has been Memory Hole'd. Bells a Ringing has more. And now that I've stewed over it some more, the more I'm convinced that, much like the TSA, I am sure there are good people working in the Department of Justice, but every second someone doesn't frog march "Mr." Holder out of his office and straight to a trial, more and more of them become accomplices. "You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet" you say, but why did you have to take a weed whacker to the egg section in the grocery store and then hit it with a flame thrower? I got news for you--over 200 dead Mexican citizens, and 168 dead Americans ISN'T A FUCKING OMELET. You need to come out of your sheltered DC life and get back into the real world, where when someone even proposes an action like this you beat the little mentally-insane moron up. Your ends are not even justifying your means!

Must Read Posts
First from Low Dog on the Totem Pole, about the current happenings in Iran, and how no one in the news seems to care.
Then from The Smallest Minority comes a whole nother boatload of fun news.
And in case you wanted the nice easy to understand version of our coming financial collapse, Tam has a nice metaphor for you.
All in all, I'm kinda glad I finally broke down and ordered that rifle...

Ouch
According to the newspaper this morning, Congress's approval rating is even with Hugo Chavez's (Chavezes? Chavez'? Chavezes'?) among US voters.
9%.
Telling, ain't it?

Mugged
Walked into the grocery store on the way home from church to pick up a couple donuts for breakfast; walked out of the grocery store with $90 worth of groceries. Sheesh.

Random Linking
Chuck Kuecker does the good work in Wisconsin dealing with all the new firearms rules. Found himself a government employee he can have a rational discussion with, even.
DaddyBear talks on preparation without going all out scary survivalist, with special emphasis on what to do with the coming inflation.
Speaking of inflation, Borepatch links to an interesting bit on how our government is planning on changing how they calculate inflation. Fiddle while Rome burns, anyone?
And Prof. Mondo talks on whether America is dying, wholly or in part. If it comes to that, count me amongst the remnant.
Go forth and read, think, and learn!

To Certain Comedians Named Bill
You may or may not have heard this story going around (go ahead and read it) about certain celebrities and pundits talking on the Second Amendment. Namely, "It's old fashioned" (Uh, the First Amendment doesn't say anything about the internet, TV, the radio, or telegraphs, but that hasn't stopped you), "It's not as important as the other amendments" (Yet these are the same people who can probably quote you Mao's "All power comes from the barrel of a gun"), "Well, maybe only hunting rifles" (because getting shot with a .270 hunting rifle won't hurt you nearly as much as a 5.56 evil black rifle, of course) and, my personal favorite, "We wouldn't be able to fight against F-22's and nukes anyway" (because that stopped the Afghanis in their tracks, didn't it?).
There are many ways to respond to such assertions, from the "First they came for the ______, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a _______" argument, to the classic "μολὼν λαβÎ!/cold dead hands" argument. Facts, figures, meeting their emotional appeals with emotional appeals of your own... in the end, though, I am starting to feel that the best response to any anti-gun argument is a nice firm um, "'Fruck' Off!"
We are winning. The anti-rights cultists have lost the narrative, despite what the media may print, and the only ones left on their side are the very ones you can't reason with.

Straining credibility
Seen on the front page of the newspaper: an AP article about a Berkeley scientist who used to consider himself a climate change denier, then when the East Anglia shenanigans went down he looked over their leaked data and decided that they were 100% completely right.
Seen on the second page with the weather: Average high for this day: a lovely 60 degrees. Today's projected high: an absolutely astonishing... 60 degrees. Record high for this day: a still pleasant 78 degrees, set in 1970.
Seen buried in the middle back of the newspaper: an article about the huge northeastern snow storms that went down over the weekend (2 feet?!? Man--you have my sympathy).
My conclusion: it's no wonder the "old media" is losing readership. The only reason I read it is so I can make fun of the articles in the morning, and that's not really how you want to build your business model...

AAAAAAAARRRGGHHH!!!
Ok, NOW I'll post this video. If you think I'm doing repeats I hope you'll go back to the previous video and see that no, you aren't going insane, but I am apparently not as good at this whole "copy/paste" thing as previously thought.
From Spikessib comes this video:
I just want to say one thing:
"Whahbiitlleutjoiyyoainglkdnalkdgapfjasdoigfen?!?"
This video made me really sad.

Quote of the President
"The one thing that we absolutely know for sure is that if we don’t work even harder than we did in 2008, then we’re going to have a government that tells the American people, ‘you are on your own.' If you get sick, you’re on your own. If you can’t afford college, you’re on your own. If you don’t like that some corporation is polluting your air or the air that your child breathes, then you’re on your own."From this article, which also says "President Obama warned his recession-battered supporters that if he loses the 2012 election it could herald a new, painful era of self-reliance in America." [emphasis added]
Poor dear, he doesn't even know what country he's in, bless his heart.
From Prof. Mondo, who points out Emerson and says, "Promises, promises..."

Why didn't you people take care of this while I was gone?
I come home and still have to listen to media talking heads go on and on about silly children complain about ...something... this one, however, is sure to tug at your heartstrings: the occupy denver people are worried about the cold weather.
Let me tell you how much this matters to me:
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
No, seriously though, they're getting cold. Because it's denver, and it's high, and it's FREEKING OCTOBER! Those poor, noble, um,socialist hacks hippie children bandwagon jumpers eh, never mind, are getting cold because THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING!
Let me repeat how important this is:
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Heh, heh, heh, ok, let me catch my breath... No, it's too much... BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

I've heard the saying "You can't legislate morality," and I've decided from personal observation that "You can't legislate intelligence," but the European Union thinks that it can legislate ANYTHING. EVER. AT ALL.
I don't know why they don't just decide to lock everyone in a bio-pod and feed them neural stimulation via spinal jacks a-la Matrix. "It's for the children!" "The scourge of tripping on a crack in the sidewalk has finally been solved!" "Yay!"
The faster their economy collapses, the better. It's passed time to press the reset button.
Found first at The Gormogons, who you really should be reading.
