From the latest SAF release:
"We're delighted that Justice Breyer was not hurt during this incident, and hopefully this case will give him a new perspective on the right to bear arms for personal safety. Police cannot always be around when you need them, even if you're a Supreme Court justice. One does not leave his right of self-defense at the doorstep of his home when he travels.
If this demonstrates anything to Justice Breyer it is that crime does not happen just at someone's primary residence, and criminals do not make appointments, giving someone time to unlock and assemble and load a firearm. You must be able to protect yourself, even on vacation outside of your home state, at a moment's notice. That's not just a civil right, but a basic human right.
When Justice Breyer dissented in the Heller case he expressed concerns about keeping loaded firearms in the home for personal protection. Faced with a machete in the hands of a criminal, one wonders whether Breyer might have quietly wished he had a gun with which he could have defended himself, his wife and their guests. We hope this incident gives him new insight with which to temper his views."
--Alan M. Gottlieb
Mr. Gottlieb is a lot nicer than I would have been. My words probably would have been along the lines of "HOW DO YOU LIKE IT NOW, DISARMAMENT BOY? HUH? HUH?"
But I guess that's why the Second Amendment Foundation is winning court cases and I'm just sitting here waiting for a computer to finish rendering a picture. Why don't you click on that link (or the picture on my sidebar) and let them know how much you appreciate them standing up for your rights when even a "Supreme" Court Justice won't?

Quote of the Day
Adaptive Curmudgeon makes predictions for the future. Here's a sample:
The European common currency, which chains drowning and strong swimmers together, will persist even as everyone has a theory about how to deep six it. I’m not sure what will happen after 2012 but watching Brussels work though the mess they’ve created will be like seeing a sausage made back into a dead cow.It boggles the mind that all these things can be seen to be happening and yet we just keep chugging along, towards the thundering roar of the waterfall, not even trying slow down, let alone turn the boat around. What can we do? Well, as I said in the comments over there, I plan on popping a lot of popcorn; watching the talking heads and rulers of the world fiddle while it burns down, at least I can get some entertainment value out of it...

For your consideration
Psalm 55 HCSB [brackets are stream of consciousness thoughts from me, which may or may not have anything to do with the passages around them]. I'd also urge you to click through some of those links.
God, listen to my prayer
and do not ignore my plea for help.
Pay attention to me and answer me.
I am restless and in turmoil with my complaint,
because of the enemy’s voice,
because of the pressure of the wicked.
For they bring down disaster on me
and harass me in anger.
[I have seen many people around the internet lately who almost seem to have given up any hope for the future whatsoever, and from the way things are going--crashing economies, governmental power grabs, and the complete disregard of the current administration for both the letter and spirit of the law--who could blame them? It is seeming like disaster is upon us.]
My heart shudders within me;
terrors of death sweep over me.
Fear and trembling grip me;
horror has overwhelmed me.
I said, “If only I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and find rest.
How far away I would flee;
I would stay in the wilderness.
I would hurry to my shelter
from the raging wind and the storm.”
[Fleeing tyranny--Going Galt, if you will--used to be a great way to escape. From Moses to the Pilgrims, right? Too bad we're in the last place left that has any hope at freedom. Where's my space drive, huh?]
Lord, confuse and confound their speech,
for I see violence and strife in the city;
day and night they make the rounds on its walls.
Crime and trouble are within it;
destruction is inside it;
oppression and deceit never leave its marketplace.
[Seriously, have you heard from places like Detroit, where justified homicide is 2200% higher than the national average? Or how Chicago was so proud that they finally had an entire 24 hour period without a shooting? While I guess both those things are good, in a way... just, wow. There are some major problems out there.]
Now it is not an enemy who insults me—
otherwise I could bear it;
it is not a foe who rises up against me—
otherwise I could hide from him.
But it is you, a man who is my peer,
my companion and good friend!
We used to have close fellowship;
we walked with the crowd into the house of God.
[Oh, President Obama. Elected on populism, and then proceeded to throw every support group he had under the bus. Too bad most of them believe him when he says "Oh baby, you know I love you, won't you please take me back?" All the hallmarks of an abusive relationship, there. Perhaps with this latest Catholic abortions thing we will see a major group of voters stop trusting the restraining order and go out to buy a shotgun.]
Let death take them by surprise;
let them go down to Sheol alive,
because evil is in their homes and within them.
But I call to God,
and the LORD will save me.
I complain and groan morning, noon, and night,
and He hears my voice.
Though many are against me,
He will redeem me from my battle unharmed.
God, the One enthroned from long ago,
will hear and will humiliate them
because they do not change
and do not fear God.
[I truly do believe in just deserts... it's just that sometimes you really want to see them happen while you're around, rather than waiting for the next life. I know, I know, not very Christian of me, but sometimes you just gotta say what you feel, ok?]
My friend acts violently
against those at peace with him;
he violates his covenant.
His buttery words are smooth,
but war is in his heart.
His words are softer than oil,
but they are drawn swords.
[Hey, has anyone around here ever heard of a little thing called "Operation Fast and Furious"? It is the weirdest little thing, you know, arming the enemies of a nation whose last aggression against us was in like, what, in either 1916 or 1846, depending on what you count as aggression/aggressors? Hmmm, well, in any case WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING? Ah yes, and that "violating his covenant" thing...]
Cast your burden on the LORD,
and He will sustain you;
He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.
[Righteous is a good word. It doesn't mean "perfect." It doesn't mean "nice." And it sure doesn't mean "pansy-ass pacifist." Maybe a good way to describe it would be "Outraged at evil." Kinda like this. Or Gatling Good.]
God, You will bring them down
to the Pit of destruction;
men of bloodshed and treachery
will not live out half their days.
But I will trust in You.

Death by Restraining Order
My boss is off to his cousin-in-law's funeral today; a very sad situation. Seems this lady was in a bad relationship, bad enough that the guy was arrested back in January. So what did the Sheriff do?
Let him out on $1,000 bond, put an ankle monitor and a restraining order on him, and sent him on his merry way.
He disabled the ankle monitor (the second time that has happened in the past year, I might add) went back up to where the lady was living (way up in the mountains, where even if the monitor worked, the cops would have been an hour away) and took a shotgun (don't even get me started on where he got a shotgun) to her and himself in a classic murder-suicide.
I'm sorry, but I can't see any way to get around it. She was killed by the ineffective "justice" system. Why anyone would have thought any other outcome was likely when they let him out, I don't know.
As Weer'd always says: "Carry your guns people." You never know when an ex with a grudge might get let out of prison...

More SOPA Thoughts
Seems there are quite a few people out there in the "Pointless posturing/yeah, so? the Fed.gov's been doing this ever since the ink was wet on the constitution--why are you all butthurt now?" category. This is a valid point, I think, but I want to tell you a story to maybe hearten you. It's very short--about my brother, who was never interested in current events/politics at all--until SOPA. He was a standard American coputer-y geek, content to play his flash games and watch cats on Youtube--until SOPA. I can't say that he is now going to be the next campaign organizer for the Libertarian party (though that position sounds kinda like it would be herding cats, anyway)... but SOPA shocked him out of his comfort zone, made him realize that yes, the government isn't all happy sunshine people here to comfort and protect, and he's actually following the primaries, and can actually debate the pros and cons of the current selection of jokes running for bumbler in chief (and he realizes that they are all jokes, too).
If even a small percentage of all the internet kiddies out there have been caused by SOPA to actually care one tiny bit about the politics of the day, and realize that they do affect you who was content to sit in the basement on 4chan, I can't say as how that is a bad thing.

On strike
...be back the 19th.
There was more than just SOPA, you know. The Senate is voting on their version (PIPA) on the 24th.
When did we let so many idiots be in charge of such minutia in our lives?

There's a word for that, I know... wait, it's coming to me
Democrats in Wisconsin finally turned in all their petitions to recall governor Walker. But apparently the next step in their cunning plan is "?" and the step after that is "PROFIT!" because:
"Democrats don’t know who will challenge Walker. Party and union leaders say they’re not concerned about not having someone actively running against Walker and trying to match his fundraising. In fact, they say it was part of their strategy."You went through all that trouble to forge all those dead people's signatures, and you never came up with anyone to run against him? There's a word for this, it will describe you perfectly, but I can't quite remember what it is... I think it starts with "S-T" and rhymes with "Cupid."

Quote of the Day
"I am sick and tired of Bloomberg demonizing gun owners. Any politician that would get up in front of a microphone and outright lie to the media about an innocent victim of his Draconian firearms policies is unworthy of holding public office. Every mayor who belongs to Bloomberg's anti-gun-rights Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition should be embarrassed by his remarks and seriously reconsider their membership in his organization. The only thing worse than Bloomberg's New York gun laws is Bloomberg himself. If Bloomberg ever had any credibility at all it no longer exists. His deliberate slander of Meredith Graves is reprehensible, and he should be ashamed."Alan Gottlieb, in the SAF's latest press release.
Hey Mayor Bloomberg? I think the technical term for that is "PWND, NOOB!"

Media Bias?
On page 4 of yesterday's newspaper: an article talking about the shooting in Mt. Rainier. It talked about things that were pertinent to the situation... you know, things that were NEWS. Let me repeat, this was on page 4.
On the front page of today's newspaper: an AP article talking about how we should re-ban guns in National Parks. This article didn't talk about the shooter, used the ranger only for her blood, and jumped straight in to their agenda. Front page.
Any hint of media bias in there, do you think?
Added: wow, then I go and read through some of my blog list and see that practically everybody has a near identical post up. When the bias is so strong, I wonder how Joe Average off the street feels about it. Does he fall in to the narrative, or does he see through it?

A list in the newspaper this morning about all the different things I will be able to vote on next year. Can you spot the one issue that separates the real hippies from the pretenders?

Kim'n and Ill'n
From The Onion News Network, the only one that is overt in it's attitude towards the news:
"Kim Jong-Un Privately Doubting He's Crazy Enough To Run North Korea"
My favorite line: "While emphasizing that he was definitely completely insane and would likely become even more so as leader of North Korea, the younger Kim nevertheless wondered if he could ever be enough of a lunatic to truly replace the most unhinged dictator on the planet."
You have to wonder, don't you?

Added more:
Reports say Kim Jong Ill still alive?

Broken eggs and omelets
Maybe a year or two ago if you had told me that Eric Holder might have been involved in providing Timothy McVeigh with his explosives, I would have pointed and laughed at your crazy conspiracy theories.
Now I just go "Hmmm. Yeah, I could see that." Considering that both the justification and the method of this and Fast and Furious are pretty much identical...
Added:
ASM826's link has been Memory Hole'd. Bells a Ringing has more. And now that I've stewed over it some more, the more I'm convinced that, much like the TSA, I am sure there are good people working in the Department of Justice, but every second someone doesn't frog march "Mr." Holder out of his office and straight to a trial, more and more of them become accomplices. "You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet" you say, but why did you have to take a weed whacker to the egg section in the grocery store and then hit it with a flame thrower? I got news for you--over 200 dead Mexican citizens, and 168 dead Americans ISN'T A FUCKING OMELET. You need to come out of your sheltered DC life and get back into the real world, where when someone even proposes an action like this you beat the little mentally-insane moron up. Your ends are not even justifying your means!

News for Pearl Harbor Day
Lee Soucy decided five years ago that when he died he wanted to join his shipmates killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Soucy lived to be 90, passing away just last year. On Tuesday, seven decades after dozens of fellow sailors were killed when the USS Utah sank on Dec. 7, 1941, a Navy diver took a small urn containing his ashes and put it in a porthole of the ship.
The ceremony is one of five memorials being held this week for servicemen who lived through the assault and want their remains placed in Pearl Harbor out of pride and affinity for those they left behind.
Go and read the whole article. I'm glad the whoever is in charge of the Utah Memorial and the Park Service in charge of the Arizona Memorial allows this to happen.
Rest easy.

Wanna hear something funny
Belgium just ended a year and a half with no government. Not sure why they felt the need for one after getting along without it for so long. Those Flems and Walloons just can't get along.
But I just thought it was funny that the place where theUN EU (sorry got my pansy European groups mixed up again) meets didn't have anything but King Albert for so long.
But I just thought it was funny that the place where the

I know this is slightly old news
But it has been stuck in my head and I wanted to get it out.
Were you aware that a bill was proposed that was supposed to be for limiting regulations?
While I find the intent of the bill admirable, I just want to let that sink in for a second.
They were trying to pass a RULE to make it so there were LESS RULES.
Aye-ye-ye...
