Gulp/Ugh

I have a couple of friends who work for [large shipping company], who told me that said company is always looking for people to load the trucks.  Apparently, it's a high turnover job--maybe because the wages are just above subsistence farming level and the hours, of which there aren't many, are from OMYLORDIT'SEARLY:30am to THISISWHENEVERYONEELSEWAKESUPam.  Not something any sane person would want to build a career on.  But it would be a job, and it would leave the rest of the day (assuming you can stay awake) to look for a real (read: engineering) job.

Sounds worse than soil testing, my previous horrible job.  I don't know if I want you to wish me luck or not...

Good luck in finding the right job - if an interim job is what it takes, good luck there, too!

Good luck...it will put money in your pocket while looking for your eng. job. You might even find it entertaining for the short haul!

You have made a respectable decision.

Paycheck? Yup.

Job you won't mind leaving on fairly short notice? Check.

Bonus for a job where you are expected to leave on fairly short notice? Cool.

Stupid Hours? Meh.

Good luck with either choice you make.

I work for one of those big shipping companies, and loading trucks is where a lot of our engineering staff and corporate staff got their start. Plus, part time people get union benefits, which are quite nice. Better than a sharp stick in the eye.

I wonder what kind of engineering jobs a big shipping company has?

I hope you DON'T get that job but you should try to and if you do don't let it kill you.

There are always CATV installer jobs looking.
It's good money if you want to work those hours- and roll around in attic insulation.
