Gun Bleg

Tell me what I don't know about .308 AR-style rifles. I know enough to not say "AR-10" as it only applies to actual Armalite guns.

Not sure if I want to save up for one of these, or a FAL, or what.

Don't get a CETME. Impossible to scope with any reliability.

At least in my experience.

Nice, quality weapons, but expensive x 2. If you really want .308 (7x62.51) purchase a M1A.

Was that the one that went on to be a H und K whatever their battle rifle was?

Stephen: I have no interest in those, for whatever reason. Want something with a pistol grip, I guess.

Have owned H&K 91's and don't want another one. Owned several M1A's over the year's, have one now, nice rifle's. The FN-FAL or clones is nice but has some issue's. Now an AR-10 or clone is a good set up. Easy to scope, decent trigger, accurate, loud and expensive to feed. Bottom line, pick what you want but a Saiga AK clone in .308 is cheaper and can have the stock replaced and a pistol grip installed.

If I wanted cheap I would go with a bolt action...

Don't forget the SCAR. I was VERY impressed with OldNFO's.

Ooooo, I'd love one of those, it's definitely too expensive for me, and from what I hear, the magazines are non-existent. The AR-10 and it's ilk seem to be right in the sweet spot for me, as something very nice but won't take four years of saving up for.

Man, I'd like a SCAR, though.

NFO's SCAR was one of those rifles that felt like I'd been shooting my whole life, yet never touched one before shooting his.
And yes, very spendy.

Just bought and AR-10 Super S.A.S.S. and I couldn't be happier. Shoots great(more accurate than I am) with a nice trigger.

Word of warning, I mounted a scope with a 50mm objective on it and you should not believe anyone that tells you the XXHigh rings will work. I had to get a riser and the rings to make it fit.

Go handle both an AR-10 or an AR-15 as the controls are the same. Then Handle and FAL.

Both are great guns and pick whatever you like the ergonomics on best.

For me I'm just not crazy about the AR charging handle. I also prefer the AR mag release and seating procedure.

The SCAR covers those both well...and its also expensive and the parts and mags are hard to find.

I'm not sure which AR-10 parts can be swapped for AR-15 ones. I do know that FAL magazines are cheaper and easier to find...double if you need pre-ban like I do.

But overall the AR-10 and FAL are both awesome guns that on paper are so similar that choice is irrelevant. So pick them up and do some pretend shopping on what you want to do with it and that should settle you right down.

Good plan.
