Deep Philosophical Questions

Can it be a casserole, or "hot dish" to those of the more Northern Midwest persuasion, if it doesn't have some Cream of Something soup in it and cheese on top?

Not even down here in the South. Merry Christmas, my friend.

After 13 years and 2 weeks in the mid-west, I can tell you that hotdish contains:

1 lb. pulverized cooked meat (or canned tuna).

1 can cream of soup.

a starch (sliced potatoes, noodles, rice, etc.

A vegetable is optional, and ususally consists of peas.

Sometimes grated or cubed cheese, and a seasoning like Wochestershire sauce. Nothing fancier.

A crunching agent for the top: crushed cornflakes, crackers, chow mein noodles, potato chips, etc.

Bake at 350 degrees until done.

Good to know it is the same even in warmer climes.

This one consisted of potatoes, hamburger, cream of celery, cheese, more cheese, broccoli, and the crunchies were french fried onions (the best part, but there are never enough).
