So now in addition to HEC-RAS, I'm installing ArcGIS and HEC-GeoRAS. Because if ever there was a program cobbled together from decades of DOS command lines even more than HEC-RAS, it would be ArcGIS... should be fun...
Rather fond of DOS commands myself. Bare bones cryptic computing. Limited, but what it does, it does well. I have a number of batch files I wrote recently to create differential backups of terabytes of data, daily. xcopy is your friend.
Ah but you see, this is nothing so mundane as a pure command line. No, this is where someone came along and tried to shoehorn a GUI over the top of a command line, leaving you with lots and lots of little pop up boxes that do all sorts of things... but nothing clearly.

Ah, Help Function, my old nemesis. We meet again.
